Building in this remote, bushfire-prone area, the owners were acutely aware of the need to manage risk via careful material selection. Externally the residence is finished in non combustible Colorbond Monument Lysaght Longline cladding and painted cement sheet, with highlights of natural stone. Thermally broken steel frame windows and doors provide maximum energy efficiency and contribute to the clean lines of the building. A bunker is also discreetly positioned within the floor plan as a provision for bushfire safety. These considered choices have delivered a stylish, functional and resilient home, which exceeds the required BAL 40 rating for the area.
With a desire to create both a rural sanctuary and a space to share with friends and family, internally home has a unique spatial organisation. The private wing, which incorporates bedrooms and retreat spaces, is positioned to the rear of the home, and separated from the open-plan entertaining zone via an expansive, light-filled central gallery. Internal glass sliding doors create a seamless transition between the zones whilst also providing acoustic benefits to minimise sound intrusion.
The spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area have been cleverly designed to create a series of additional intimate living spaces to enjoy. A key feature of this space is the inclusion of a recycled timber statement beam at the apex of the ceiling. Running the length of the room, the feature beam adds rustic charm, complementing the rural location. Ceiling fans and feature pendant lights are mounted from the beam, bringing these elements into view, to delineate each area and create a relaxed environment.
The effortlessly functional entertainers kitchen has ample preparation space, storage and room to gather around the waterfall end island bench. An adjacent bar with custom cabinetry is the ideal space to share with friends, whilst soaking up the rural views.
The dining space easily accommodates the 12-seat table and provides access to the outdoor entertaining facilities, which include a putting green and inground pool. In the lounge area, a hand-laid natural stone feature chimney surrounds the woodfire place. Clever storage solutions, bench seats and study nooks make this a flexible and practical space for all to enjoy.
Each of the spacious bathrooms and ensuites has the ageless appeal of timber joinery. This is beautifully complemented by a palette of neutral-toned tiles and matt black fittings, adding an earthy and calming feel to the home.
The master bedroom and retreat area include a hand-laid natural stone fireplace, flanked by scenic windows. Walk-in wardrobes are discreetly positioned as a hob wall behind the bedhead, optimising space to create the perfect dressing room.
The innovative design in the children’s bedroom also provides another great space-saving solution for sleepovers. The children’s bedroom has inbuilt bunks to accommodate extra guests, which when not in use, are discreetly hidden behind bi-fold doors.
