The homeowner’s vision was for a statement home that would nestle against the hillside and blend into its surroundings. Hedger Constructions achieved this brief flawlessly, using natural materials both in the interior and on the external façade, and including an ample amount of stone and timber that perfectly suit the surroundings. Designed as three cabin-esque pods, the property has striking visual impact whilst providing functional shared and private spaces.
This distinctive modular design with pitched roofs gives a definitive zoning to the house, with a central entertainment area. The main living area serves as the core of the home, with double-glazed timber windows, an impressive hand-laid custom stone fireplace and hand-pitched timber-lined ceilings in V-groove ironbark. This central zone opens onto an ironbark verandah and decking areas with expansive views of the gorgeous countryside.
The living room effortlessly incorporates the kitchen, which boasts beautiful Corian benchtops with generous seating room and two-pack finish shaker-style cabinetry in a clean, crisp white. The extensive cabinetry is enhanced with Miele appliances, a butler’s pantry and a clever use of laundry space. The private owners and guest wings are connected via linkways and enhance the privacy of the building.
The owners’ wing has been designed not only as a sleeping space but it also incorporates a large retreat area with a gas log fireplace and an expansive en suite, which features a freestanding tub that’s kept private from the rest of the home. Here, the homeowners can enjoy a relaxing bath without missing out on the views.
High end fixtures and fitting schedules, along with door hardware, have been carefully selected to blend seamlessly into the design. The timber-clad entry door and concealed door for storage areas have also been cleverly thought through.
