Set within a prominent city-fringe building, this extensive apartment refurbishment transforms a generously scaled residence into a refined and highly considered contemporary home.

Positioned on an upper level, the apartment takes full advantage of expansive views across Melbourne, with the interior planning carefully reshaped to strengthen the relationship between the home and its outlook.

A redesigned ceiling scheme and revised spatial layout establish a greater sense of openness and continuity between rooms, while allowing natural light to penetrate deeper into the interior. Practicality was equally important to the brief, with materials selected for their longevity, durability and ease of maintenance without compromising the overall level of finish.

The interior is defined by highly detailed architectural elements and a rich but restrained material palette. French oak parquetry, natural travertine detailing and full-height custom doors establish a strong architectural framework, complemented by warm timber veneers, smoky mauve quartzite and handcrafted wall finishes.

Lighting plays an integral role throughout the apartment, combining concealed and ambient illumination with decorative feature pieces to emphasise materiality, form and atmosphere. The result is a layered interior that shifts subtly throughout the day and into the evening.
